CJ Hernandez, candidate for UT Senate District 5

Experience Matters

I have spent my career in public service, protecting American interests abroad, strengthening communities at home, and building connections across cultures, languages, and political systems.

A senior U.S. diplomat who speaks Spanish fluently, I have worked on the front lines of defense, diplomacy, and human rights in some of the most complex environments in the world. My work has always centered on one principle: strong communities are built through trust, collaboration, and service.

Working for You

I believe government should be accountable, fiscally responsible, and focused on people. I began my public service with the U.S. Air Force helping secure long-term jobs at Hill Air Force Base, then spent 20 years as a diplomat advancing national security, human rights, and opportunities for American businesses. I bring that experience—and Utah values of integrity, stewardship, and common-sense leadership—home to Senate District 5, with a focus on responsible use of taxpayer dollars and results for working families.

Community and Family First

After retiring from federal service, I returned home and joined Ogden City as the Community Affairs Coordinator, working directly with residents, community organizations, and city departments to improve outreach, strengthen engagement, and ensure city programs served all Ogdenites.

I am fortunate that all of my family lives in Northern Utah.
